Hello and Grüß Gott!
I am excited to have an opportunity to study abroad in Austria in the summer of 2023! I look forward to joining my peers and NCSU's German Foreign Language Department for language studies in Vienna and a cultural tour across central Europe, including to Prague and Salzburg.

To those of you that don't know me, it is great to meet you! I am a native of Swannanoa, North Carolina. You are forgiven for having never heard of it - it is about a 15 minute drive east of Asheville. I am now a Senior in History at North Carolina State University - my lifelong passion and hopeful career after I attend graduate school. I am proud to be an Eagle Scout, a veteran of Troop 50 in Montreat, North Carolina. I am an amateur radio hobbyist (callsign KN4UPT) and Vice-President of the Student Amateur Radio Society here at NC State. I love history and my primary hobby (obsession?) is learning more about the heritage of all the earth's peoples. Keeping with my Appalachian roots, I also enjoy fishing, camping and hiking.

If all goes to plan this summer, I will study at the Internationales Kulturistitut Language Academy in Vienna. IKI Vienna is among the most prestigious language schools in the German-speaking world, hosting up to 500 students from around the globe every month. In addition to the improvement of my German language skills and the immersion in Austrian culture I expect to get out of the trip, it will open the door for me to pursue a minor in German Studies at NC State. That minor will allow me to pursue further German courses, so that after graduation I won't just be able to say "I took German in college", I will be able to say "Ich habe Deutsch im College gelernt!"

  • Huge Grant Award!

    The University has issued me a Grant award of $2500!
    Today is a huge milestone. I was very anxious for the summer Grant awards, and I ended up getting more than I expected.
    Funding goal has been reduced accordingly.
