My Travel Story

by: greg pyles Start Date: Apr 19, 2024 - End Date: Apr 18, 2025
Under Grace,

Grace was my grandmother’s name, and throughout my life she set examples and influenced our whole family. She is why I am doing all this.

Our Story

So, I need your help. I want to travel around Colombia  exploring all the beauty it has to offer and also volunteering at the children fundacion along the way. Please give what you can afford. It we be greatly appreciated by all involved.

Hello everyone, I am fundraising for the opportunity to serve the underprivileged, the poor, the children, the disadvantaged people of Colombia. To raise money to send to self-funded Children’s Foundations throughout Colombia that are feeding the poor, neglected, abused children of sex workers, drug addicts and alcoholics of Colombia. I am also fundraising for the disadvantaged Colombian poor with health issues who cannot afford ancillary services, supplies, and equipment necessary for maintaining their quality of life.

This too affects the quality of life for the children of Colombia. Which affects the culture in which the children grow up and then create a family with the same results and abuse that they grew up in. Someone must break the cycle of abuse and it might as well be me. I don’t hear from people I have related to in the poorest of poor areas that there is much help from outsiders (People outside of their neighborhoods and family) especially not from their government. No assistance or if there is the paper work and red tape is overwhelming and they give up. Now living in poverty and depending on their neighbors and family members for help.

Mothers become ill and with the majority of families being absent of the husband and father figure, the young children must go out and find ways to make money to feed and house the family. These children as young as eleven must go out and work, amongst men who are predators of the worst kind. The stories are unbelievable and very sad. Their childhood is being taken away from them so when they become young adults and spending many years of supporting their families in ways the average westerner could not imagine. What hope do they have of raising children under these circumstances.  It really makes me angry.  That’s why I need your help.

I am 70-year-old retired gentlemen from Ohio that became curious after watching movies about Colombia and the violence and drug culture during the eighties and nineties. I did what most people did when they were curious, I googled it. Then I watched YouTube videos and read articles. You see I lived through all that through the television nightly news, and the music of that time. I love history. I was able to connect via Facebook and Instagram and began conversations with people form Colombia. So much so I have donated money to a couple children’s Fundación in Bogota and Medellin.

However, that wasn’t fulfilling enough. I have a background which is very diverse in skills, education, and experiences. So I decided that I wanted to go to these facilities and volunteer my time and skills to help improve the situation they may be in. I live comfortably on my pension and social security benefits here in the states. If I was to travel to Colombia, I would be able to do much more and share the experiences of life with others. Sharing love and peace to the children and underprivileged of Colombia. I plan to travel to 6 different cities and relate with the locals throughout Colombia.

So I need your help. Please give what you can afford. It we be greatly appreciated by all involved.

    Mourning Dove Family
Took some time off from the fundraising grind to help out a different family in need. This unusual nesting spot by a Mourning Dove family. There are two eggs and one hatched last night . Today there was a torrential downpour and i noticed the mother and her nest was getting soaked. So i got a patio umbrella a nd placed it over the nest so the mom could be more comfortable.
