My name is Sage Garcia and I have been accepted to the ASU: Norway Lights the way in Revolutionary Correctional Practices program that takes place this summer in Norway. I am currently pursuing a concurrent degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice and Forensic Psychology and am a student of Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions and now the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences as well. I am also a student of the Barrett Honors College at ASU. After I obtain my degree I plan to pursue a career in the criminal justice system, my goals are to be in the FBI. I also am thinking of going to graduate school, such as law school at the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law. This study abroad program I have been accepted into follows the police and correctional facilities in Norway and visits governmental, educational and cultural sites. Norway is a country leading in some of the best correctional practices and is ranked one of the safest countries. This opportunity will teach me so much about new correctional practices just like how I am currently learning in my major. I would love and gain so much from the experience of seeing the justice system in a whole other country, especially one like Norway has. This experience will give me the opportunity to gain real world insight into how criminal justice systems work. If I fulfill this opportunity, I will be able to apply what I have learned to my academics and then in the future to my career in the criminal justice system. Norway has so many beautiful landmarks and so many instructional places to learn from. I would love to earn the 3 credits from this program to put towards my majors by doing something that I am very passionate about. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me and I would make sure to get the most I possibly can from this experience. I strongly believe it is so important to see different cultures and different systems to learn more about your own culture and apply it to your own systems. It is my dream to follow this career path and this program would give me a significant start to pursuing it. I would greatly appreciate any help you may be able to provide me. Thank you!
