My Travel Story

by: Hailie Garside Start Date: Jan 3, 2023 - End Date: Jul 2, 2023
my name is Hailie, I am 17 years old (will be 18 when I travel) and I have chosen to go on an animal conservation volunteering trip in August 2023. I have always had an interest in and have a huge passion for animals and wildlife. this is a massive opportunity for me to get up close with the animals in their natural environment whilst caring for and learning more about each species. on my 2 week trip, I will be planting trees, going on patrols around the reserve, participating in general care and monitoring health. I will also be releasing animals back into the wild on this course.
I will be travelling on my own which will be a first for me. this will improve my confidence in many things. and I am looking forward to meeting new people who share the same interests in this kind of work.
I would appreciate any fundraising donations however big or small to help me with this trip of a lifetime. Thank you so much for taking the time to look at my page and I will be sure to keep you updated on my trip in august :) xx
I will be leaving updates of my travel on this page :) x

  • Closer To The Africa Trip!

Only 4 months until I go to South Africa!

I am booking my flights tonight. I fly from manchester with 3 change overs: London,Johannesburg and then port elizabeth! It’s a 18-19 hour flight.
I have also found out from past volunteers that you have the opportunity to go to the local school and give them warm meals. You get to spend their lunch hour getting to know the students before they go back to their lessons!
For my weekends, I’m planning to do a shark cage dive and possibly a sky dive if I’m feeling brave enough! I cannot wait and want to thank you all for helping me have this amazing experience!- hailie :) xx
  • Vaccinations

I have had my first 3 vaccines so far!
I have had 1 out of 3 doses of hepatitis A and B, which prevents illnesses from contaminated food and water.
I have also had another vaccine of tetanus and typhoid, to
prevent bacterial infections which affects the organs (typhoid) the tetanus prevents an infection caused by bacteria from the ground, mainly dirt and mud. I am going to have my second dose of Hep A and B in 2 weeks, and then the last when I turn 18.
I need my Rabies vaccine, which is needed since I am working around animals. I also need malaria tablets, which prevents illnesses from mosquitoes!
