My Travel Story

Help Me Volunteer Abroad & Make a Difference in Croatia 

Hi my name is Gracie Fred, and I’m a recent high school graduate  (Class of 2025). I’m currently taking a gap year to explore the world, grow as a person, and give back in meaningful ways. One of the most exciting and important parts of this journey will happen in January 2026, when I travel to Split, Croatia to volunteer with children through IVHQ’s Youth Support Program.

Through this program, I’ll be working closely with young children—offering homework help, teaching English, organizing sports and creative activities, and being a positive role model through cultural exchange. I’ll also support local program staff and help create safe, enriching environments for kids to learn and grow

Why This Is So Meaningful to Me?

Working with children has always been close to my heart. I’ve long known that my dream career is to become a child therapist, whether through traditional counseling or equine-assisted therapy. I believe every child deserves someone who sees them, supports them, and believes in their potential
Volunteering in Croatia is more than just a trip—it's a life-changing opportunity for me to begin living that purpose. It’s a chance to make a real difference in children’s lives while gaining hands-on experience that will shape my future. I’ll be learning just as much as I give—about compassion, communication, resilience, and the beauty of cultural exchange.

I chose Croatia not only for the opportunity it offers, but because it’s one of the safer and more stable destinations in the world—a place where I can immerse myself fully, contribute meaningfully, and grow independently.
