My Travel Story

by: Elli Asker Start Date: Dec 3, 2023 - End Date: Apr 2, 2024
This project is deeply personal and holds immense significance in my life. Coming from my home country, I am on a quest to explore my identity, establish connections with my roots, and embark on a therapeutic journey through art. Having experienced PTSD, I have found solace and healing in the creative process, and this project is an extension of my journey towards self-discovery and healing. Undertaking my inaugural assemblage art project in Azerbaijan marks a pivotal moment in my artistic education and career trajectory. The unique challenges and creative processes involved in assemblage art will deepen my understanding of this medium, providing a valuable skill set that will undoubtedly shape my future artistic endeavors. This project represents not only a personal journey but a significant step forward in my evolution as an artist.
The culmination of this project will extend  with a planned exhibition in Sweden poised to create a meaningful ripple effect in the local community.
The exhibition will serve as a catalyst for cultural exchange, bringing the rich tapestry of Azerbaijani art to the heart of Sweden. Through the unique lens of my assemblage art, inspired by the diverse landscapes and stories of Azerbaijan, I aim to foster a deeper understanding of a culture that may be unfamiliar to many in the Swedish community. The cross-cultural dialogue sparked by the exhibition promises to bridge gaps, cultivate empathy, and celebrate the universal language of creativity.
My passion for this project lies in the innovative and transformative nature of assemblage art. Drawing from personal experiences with PTSD, I am committed to using this expressive form to not only heal myself but to inspire others on their journeys of self-discovery. The project serves as a testament to the therapeutic power of art and its potential to bring about positive change.
Returning to Azerbaijan, my motherland, for this artistic endeavor was a thoughtful decision rooted in the profound connection I hold with its cultural heritage, historical depth, and the lively artistic community. The nation's harmonious blend of tradition and modernity serves as an ideal canvas for my exploration of identity and roots. The diverse landscapes and warm hospitality of Azerbaijan create an inspiring environment, fostering the creation of art that is not only visually impactful but deeply resonant with personal and cultural significance.
This inaugural assemblage art project is not only a creative endeavor but a profound quest for self-discovery and connection. Each carefully curated piece of the assemblage becomes a tangible representation of my identity rediscovered, woven together through the assemblage process. The significance of this project lies in its role as a bridge between personal healing, cultural exploration, and the universal language of assemblage art—a powerful combination that transcends individual boundaries and resonates with a global audience.
