Camp Borneo - Jess's Orangutan Adventures
My Travel Story
I'm so excited to be telling you all I'm going to Borneo next August!!
I'm going for a 14 day trip to the area of Sabah and will be embarking on many adventures. Whilst I am here my activities including visiting the world-renowned Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary, where I will probably cry when I see one of the world's finest and more beautiful animals.
This is the main reason for my visit. Seeing the wonderful jungles and going on a 4-5 day trek through the wilderness, no doubt I will be further inspired to crack down on my studies into environmental science and shoot to save these amazing areas.
I also am getting the once in a lifetime chance to ride down the river Kinabatangan to see the wildlife and habitats from a lazy gliding longboat. The opportunity to see lush mangrove and 9 more amazing primates such as proboscis monkeys makes me want to scream! But, alas I will have to wait 9 months to grow my fundraiser before I’m released onto this small but fantastic area of natural elegance and biodiversity.
In my time in Borneo I will also be helping the locals with activities that need volunteers in the area I will be staying. The activities vary from year to year that this camp runs so my help could range between teaching English to Khmer children to constructing new water storage facilities. I hope my work will be valuable for generations and as I leave this wonderland I know I’ll go on to keep working towards conserving the areas as the Bornean Orangutan holds a special place in my heart.
I hope that my little spiel has inspired you to add some amount to my fundraising pot, for as you know I am a humble student who lives on beans and peanut butter. The money I pay/you donate towards my trip not only goes towards my expenses it also pays into local preservation of the area and conservation of local habitats.
I appreciate every contribution as you're helping me chase my dream and knocking my future CV up to a higher regard.
I can't thank you enough in advance if you have decided to donate, come collect your complementary hug on your way out.
Jess out xx
