My Travel Story

Hello! I'm Madeleine, a 16-year-old junior in high school. I have lived in the United States my entire life and have always wanted to travel outside the country. For the entirety of my high school life I have been researching and wishing to go on an exchange program, but never committed. This year I decided I was going to step out of my comfort zone and take chances younger me would never have done.

Getting to travel to Finland would give me so many new experiences. Going on a trip to Finland by myself will not only allow me to experience the excitement of traveling alone, but it will also allow me to live independently without my family for some time. I would also be able to experience a new culture and a completely new education. Having to go through the process of deciding destinations, scheduling interviews, and fundraising also allows me to grow as a person and push past my comfort zone. Overall, this trip would better prepare me for college and adulthood better than any high school could.

Finland is widely recognized for its exceptional education system that emphasizes critical thinking and intellectual exploration instead of memorization-based learning. Finnish students consistently rank among the top performers in the world, and having the opportunity to study in such an environment would greatly enhance my education.

After conducting research and planning, I am thrilled to embark on my upcoming exchange program in Finland with an open mind. This opportunity is not just about the exceptional education I will receive, but also about the new experiences I am going to gather and the challenges I am going to overcome. I am ready to embrace this journey with enthusiasm and make the most out of it.
