Coffee Value Chain Study Abroad in Costa Rica!
My Travel Story
Hi there!
My name is Ayla and I'm a Food Science student at Texas A&M University.
I'm working on building funds to study abroad for about two weeks in Costa Rica in January. Our class is the first ever offered on the Value Supply Chain for coffee and is one of the only collegiate level coffee courses in the nation! Its the very first study abroad class of its type!
Coffee is something near and dear to my heart and its an incredible opportunity to be given the chance to go to Costa Rica and see the coffee farms first hand. We will get to speak with the farmers, pick coffee cherries, learn the processes of fermentation, drying, roasting- essentially the whole process from bean to cup.
With climate change continuing as it is, coffee is facing near extinction in the next 30 years, which is why it is so important for students to be able to participate in opportunities like this. I would love to be able to use the education I am earning from A&M to help do my part to preserve this incredible plant for centuries into the future.
