My Travel Story

I am pursuing a degree in environmental science, an area that I know I will love and am passionate about. Since I was little, my eye has always drawn to the small, beautiful spaces of nature. The quiet and the awe-inspiring, but also the chaos and beauty. Some of my most incredible and inspiring experiences involved whale watching or visiting national parks. As a sophomore in college now, I can say that this dedication and love of nature have continued to grow. My classes have given me a new appreciation for environmental science. The peace of mind that I find when walking through the woods or watching the sun set has strengthened my resolve to protect the world we live in. I am determined to learn as much as I can from my professors and peers while in school, and to take advantage of opportunities to learn and experience more. When I graduate, equipped for my career, I plan to tackle many of the environmental issues so prevalent in our world. It is an issue that has been multiplying without attainable solutions, and I am eager to apply my problem-solving skills to find more possibilities for relief, whether immediate or long-term. My love of learning will help to prepare me for this pursuit, whether it be in an area of ocean engineering, environmental law, or agriculture. These careers, and the centuries-old conflicts that they address, are complex. My long-term goal is to pursue graduate school after completing my bachelor's degree, with my dream being to earn a PhD if I can secure the necessary funding. This further education will strengthen my abilities to tackle the environmental issues our planet is facing more effectively. It is my wish and my belief that I will be involved in many different areas, and my goal is to leave a powerful, positive impact wherever I find myself. I am confident that I will be able to do this. My middle school and high school education included many science classes, labs, speech and debate classes, persuasive essays, and problem-solving assignments. After only one semester at my university, I am already seeing how my classes are broadening my skills in these areas, as well as drawing out other unknown strengths. I look forward to my future with anticipation and excitement, as well as a stubborn determination to complete what I have set out to do. I hope that this scholarship will be a part of that journey and make my long-term dreams even more attainable.  This summer I am pursuing a summer college program in Michigan that will allow me to finish my degree in three years, allowing me to complete my college degree without overwhelming college debt. Any dollar would help as I try to tackle this next step of my journey!
