My Travel Story

by: Gennifer Harding-Gosnell Start Date: Jul 6, 2020 - End Date: Sep 3, 2020
I am taking the last step in a huge career transition that will allow me to teach non-English speaking people all over the world. I have already been certified in global communications and am a former instructor for persons with developmental disabilities, so I'll be able to use this education to teach English specifically to disabled adults. Persons with mental and/or developmental disabilities like anxiety disorders or high-functioning autism may be capable of learning but not at the same pace or not the same way as traditional students.
But first I need to take the CELTA Assessment Course. The CELTA is the worldwide certification for teaching English to non-native speakers. This certification, coupled with the experience of my prior career, would open up advanced job opportunities for me, and the opportunity for a disabled person to learn that they may not otherwise have.
I currently live paycheck-to-paycheck, as do so many other Americans, so I'm not able to save much. I have saved $300 toward the course, but it took me 6 months, so I'm not able to make this happen in a reasonable amount of time. Once I complete the course and can start working online from home and earning better wages, I'll be able to look for jobs abroad if I want and can just fund my travel myself.
