My Travel Story

My name is Fernanda and I began this fundraiser on behalf of my 61 year old grandma. When my grandma was young, she dreamed of becoming a lwayer, being single, and exploring the world. However, her parents did not want her to pursue her education and was instead forced to participate in the family business. Eventually, when she turned 19, she married my grandfather, During her married years my grandma still tried to pursue education, she cared for her kids during the day and studied at night. It was difficult, but her dreams were within reach. When she turned 25, she began to feel ill and soon enough she'd realize she would coonstantly plagued by diseases for the rest of her life: high blood pressure, abnormal thyroid levels, diabetes, renal insufficiency. She was forced to drop out of school, and care for her kids despite the imminent possibility of dying within weeks or even months. Somehow, my grandma managed to beat all odds and is still here 36 years later. Along the path, she became a single mom to my mom and uncle, and still felt the consequences of the tumor that had impaired the function of many organs as doctors later discovered. Even now, she is still suffering the after effects and every few years suffers some major incident like a heart attack (there's been 3 of those so far). As I've grown up and heard my grandma's story, I've realized how much she's had to sacrifice to get her kids to where they are now. And deep in her eyes, I can tell that she regrets not having pursued education despite her illnesses since she insists there must have been a way. Nowadays, neither my mom nor my uncle are in a good enough economic standing to fund her travels to the extent that she woul've liked and I'm only 16 with no income. My plan was to grow up and attend college in hopes that one day, I could show my grandma the world. Sadly, my grandma's condition will only decline as time goes on and I fear not being able to fulfill, at least one, of her dreams. Therefore, I've resorted to this platform, the money that I collect here will be used to pay for my grandma's travel expenses and ensure that she has all the accomodations she needs to do so safely.
