My Travel Story

Hi everyone my name is Ava and I arrived in Arusha, Tanzania one week ago, I have been given an amazing opportunity to volunteer in early childhood centres and primary schools. The primary school I have been assigned to is called Power of The Children, this school was built six years ago. The director is this amazing woman called Pascalina who owns the school. There are approximately 40 students in the school where each child has to pay €3.70 a month for the school bus, food, teachers salary, electricity and much more. The teachers also only earn €36 a month. We have discussed with the director what is needed for the school and also what we could do to help. For the last three years this school has been struggling to build a toilet for the children as they have never had enough money to do so. Some money has already been fundraised and we almost have enough to build this bathroom for the children and also paint it in bright colours for them. However, some children come to school with no books, pencils erasers, water ect. as it is not available to them at home as their families cannot afford it. Therefore we are also planning on getting some school supplies for them and big bottles of water with plastic cups so they have access to it at school. Donations big or small would allow the possibility of the building of the bathroom, buying school supplies for them, getting them water & plastic cups and hopefully a few smiles too.
