My name is Emily Hoang and I currently study at the University of Manchester, doing a BA(Hons) in Geography. I am really interested in the development and inequality sector, especially in gender/power inequalities in developing countries. I would like to see this occurrence first hand, this would enable me to truely understand the difficulties that vulnerable people (especially women) face on a day-to-day basis. Therefore, by getting involved in the project of women empowerment, I will hopefully be able to impact on some of these women's lives. This will help them to know that, they can achieve higher and greater things! The project involves giving confidence to these women and by teaching them vocational skills like computer skills and spoken English, this will give them a stepping stone for economic opportunities, as well as character development. I am so passionate about this, being a female myself, I see the inequalities everyday and this is in a developed country, let alone what it would be like in a developing country. It makes me sick thinking about how some men can make a women feel so small and powerless, without realising that by empowering women, this would provide opportunities for economic growth and sustainable development! I would love to be able to provide a positive and lasting contribution to these women, who are powerful but they just don't know it yet!
