My Travel Story

by: Kiaramarie Reynolds Start Date: Feb 3, 2020 - End Date: May 29, 2020
Hello Everyone, my name is Kiaramarie Reynolds. I am 19 years old and a sophomore at the University of Bridgeport, currently studying General Business with a focus of International Business as a full-time student. <br />I have the opportunity to study abroad at Hanyang International Summer School (also known as HISS) in Seoul, South Korea for Summer 2020. I will be studying International Business, Principle of Management and Korean language to earn 9 credits towards my Bachelor of Science Degree in business. I am very passionate about my international studies so I have started this campaign because being abroad or studying abroad has always been a dream from a young age, and now it has the chance to become a mark in my college journey and career. Studying abroad is important to me because growing up, I have always been surrounded by and have taken part in different cultures that are apart of the reason of who I am today. My university has a wide variety of different cultures on campus, so I have met international students and domestic students with different ethnicities to ask about their country, culture and their experience studying abroad. Also, I joined my university's Coffee Hour which is an event for learning about different countries from the international students on campus while experiencing their food and as always being told from those events, I have learned that there is no better way to fully experience and understand a culture other than to be fully immersed.

In addition to the Coffee Hour event, I have developed a deeper interest in Korea as I am currently taking Korean courses, I am watching the news; Korean History documentaries; children shows; dramas; variety show and listening to music to develop my language skills as well as incorporating my knowledge on the language into the Korean Pop Dance club sessions as the Vice President, where I assist in teaching the club members Korean pop solo artist or group choreography.

With your help, I would have the opportunity to attend the South Korean program and take my chosen courses for 4 weeks from July 6th 2020 to July 31st 2020. From this trip, I hope to expand my cultural intellect by developing my language skills, gaining an in-depth understanding and appreciation of the culture while appreciating and exchanging the differences between mine and theirs. As well as learn different business practices outside of western practices as a future business owner who has a goal of expanding their business globally.

Although my university has a partnership deal with Hanyang University for this program, I am only eligible to apply for one study abroad scholarship to cover the cost of the program, there is still a substantial amount left for me to pay for other expenses like my academic record and flight ticket. A little help can make a big difference and helping me go through this program will do that personally and professionally.

If you are able to help me reach my goal, the money will go towards paying for the program including accommodation ($2,035.00), academic payment for my records at my university($400) and a flight ticket ($1,200 - $2,000). Please donate or share to help me be able to accomplish my dreams of studying abroad and being a global business owner.

Thank you for reading.
