My Travel Story

To anyone who knows me, a fundamental part of my life has always been my dream to work abroad and someday live in Japan.

In pursuit of this dream, I started self study of the Japanese language at age 12 in the absence of access to classes, became an active participant in the Asian Culture Club in my high school, and when I started college I knew right away I wanted to pursue a degree in International Business and continue to take strides toward my now lifelong goal. I was fortunate to have a scholarship from my university which allowed me to go on a trip around several cities in the Kansai region during my freshman year and in my time with the school I engaged in events and activities with exchange students from Japan as a conversation partner and friend.

Now, in order to complete my degree, I need to complete an internship credit, and I believe doing so abroad would be lay the groundwork for me to finally get my foot in the door in Japan and achieve what I've been working toward. Not only will I be able to finish the requirements for my bachelor's degree, which will open the door for me professionally to seek a visa and long-term employment, but it will be an opportunity to foster connections new and old and to deepen my understanding of the local culture and language.

I chose Fukuoka in particular as an applicant to the Meiji Internships program as it is the most affordable package, and I would be thrilled to have the opportunity to live in any location money-allowing. If I'm able to fund this trip (or participation in a similar program), it would mean not only achieving a dream of mine, but the beginning of my future.

    Update 1!
    I've successfully covered the deposit fee and have secured my place in the business/pr/hospitality internship program. I updated the goal amount accordingly with the new information!

    My start date is set for April 19th of 2021. I'm absolutely over the moon with excitement! Now I just need to secure the funds for my plane ticket, the rest of the program fee, and my living accommodations for the two month duration I'm scheduled for.
