My Travel Story

by: Emelyn Rivera Start Date: Oct 16, 2016 - End Date: Apr 15, 2017
Firstly, hello and thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this. My name is Emelyn, some of you may know me and some of you may not. I was born into your average middle-American family, with two parents who have worked so hard to give me and my two siblings whatever they could. My parents, two Puerto Ricans new to America, started from nothing. My father shared a single room with 10 siblings and my mother was so poor that any tooth that had a cavity had to be pulled out. However, despite all that, they work hard to give their kids the best life that they could offer. That's why they are my heroes, my friends, my life. This spring of 2017 I will be studying abroad in Japan, which has been my dream since I was 14, but with fees totaling up to about 13,000 dollars I fear that maybe I've reached too high and so even if I can raise just enough money to pay for even just my food there, then I would be eternally grateful. I know times are tough and I understand that more than anyone, but even if someone donates even one dollar then I would truly be happy because that's one less burden on my parents. Thank you.
