Please help Hannah make a difference to children in Ghana!
My Travel Story
Hello my name is Hannah and I am wishing to celebrate my 15th birthday in Ghana making a difference
to children, surrounded by deprivation that I have never encountered. Without charities and volunteers these children wouldn't receive two nutritious meals daily, nor have an education that we take for granted. I am here to tell you what amazing things can come from making a donation towards my Ghana Volunteering adventure in July 2023.
I have just been given an incredible and rare opportunity through my school Penrice Academy in St Austell, Cornwall to visit and provide support to a school in Ghana that relies on the generosity of charities such as African Adventures Foundation.
I will be participating in a number of activities such as teaching, playing outdoor games and helping the village families, others from my school will also be helping with building and extending a new school, all of which ensure the school can continue to help shape the futures of every child that walks through its doors.
The positive impact my taking part will have is clear to see. I feel incredibly lucky that I can take part in this experience and broaden my own perspective on life. I know that this trip will provide me life long memories, skills and an attitude to go on and make a difference wherever life takes me.
I am studying GCSE child development at school, and will attend further education with the aim of having a child focused career in the future. This experience will give me a greater understanding of another culture and real poverty facing these young children and their families, along with skills and experience to teach an English programme to speakers of other languages.
I have overcome many hurdles and challenges myself, having a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder, so this trip will really help me with my social, emotional and communication skills and gain invaluable life skills which will be so important in my future life and career. I really want to make a difference to other disadvantaged people's lives and this will enable me to achieve that.
As part of my mission, I am fundraising to achieve this extraordinary school trip. This will further empower me knowing I have achieved this myself! I will be filling a second suitcase with vital supplies for the village and school children - toiletries, sanitary products for girls (as they miss a third of their education due to not having access to period products), pens, paper, crayons and school stationery items to help equip my chosen school in Ghana, along with a donation for building materials to enable the school to accept more pupils in their building and school extension project. I would like to fundraise £3000 to achieve this on my trip.
In these challenging times we find ourselves in, if you cannot support me with a money donation, please consider shopping via Easy fundraising UK site. Trewoon Community Fundraising are donating all funds earned via this platform, from all their supporters old and new. And...It won't cost you a penny on top of any purchase you do online! - Please see my update 18/10/22.
If you can donate to my cause you will have helped me to contribute to the great work that African Adventures Foundation Charity continue to do and it is very much appreciated.

My Ghanian School’s Wish List.
I truly thank everyone who has already helped make this volunteer trip possible!
I have an extra suitcase to fill and would like to take items that are really needed to support the children at our volunteer school.
Anyone who could help collect any of these items for me to take would be very much appreciated. They can be dropped to me at my home. Please email my mum to arrange: mtoogoodjohnson@yahoo.com
Any extra money I can raise for my volunteer school, I would like to help buy some desks so the children don’t have to learn on the floors - it would be lovely if they could sit on a chair at a desk to concentrate with their school work, like we do at our school here -
My School Has Been Allocated, That I Am Volunteering At!
My school has been allocated now! I am booked to have my Yellow Fever vaccine on Wednesday. My visa will need to be applied for after Easter and my trip is fast coming up!
Exciting times , Hannah
