My Travel Story

Hello! My name is Tiffany and I am a science teacher in the rural town of Margaretville, New York. I am planning a once-in-a-lifetime trip for 15 of my low-income students to visit the remote Galápagos Islands of Ecuador. 

I am passionate about this trip because I attended a low-income rural school growing up and felt that because of my financial constraints, I wasn't given the opporunities that students that attended larger schools were awarded.

I have made it my personal mission to give back to a rural community by becoming a teacher in a small town, and by working to create opporunities for my students to see the world. This trip cost approx. $4,000 per student, and I knew this cost was beyond what my students' families could afford. I wrote an essay and by the grace of God, my students and I were awarded $20,000 to fund this trip. While this money helped offset the cost of the trip, some families are still struggling to come up with the remaining $1,000 that their student needs.
