Cynthia is one of those kids that doesn’t sit still and loves making people laugh. She loves running around playing and enjoying life as all 9 year olds do. Unfortunately she has had her struggles physically as she was born with bowed knees which as she has grown older started to cause her pain when doing the things that any other child her age would be able to do. After consulting with Doctors it was decided surgery on her growth plates would be the best thing to do to ensure that she continued to grow without any complications or pain so on December 4th 2019 she went through guided growth plate surgery to straighten her legs with surgical pins. But after the surgery, when she should of started to feel better and recover, the pain in her left leg was getting worse. We were advised that it was just from her muscles adjusting to the surgery but as much as we wanted this to be the cause, it wasn’t. After a bone biopsy on February 6th 2020 our worst fears became our reality and Cynthia was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. Osteosarcoma is a bone cancer that begins in the cells that causes extra bone to form. It is an aggressive Cancer that requires immediate action and Cynthia, who should have been recovering from her growth plate surgery and returning to school with her friends, is now having to start Chemotherapy asap. She faces 5-12months of treatment ahead, multiple operations to remove the pins and extra bone growth as well as the possibility that she may have to have her leg amputated if the Chemotherapy doesn’t work. Despite the long journey ahead Mikiah is staying positive and still making us laugh but as you could imagine it has turned her and her families world upside down. Her mum & dad, Andrea & Brent are amazing young parents who are having to cope with this diagnosis of their eldest daughter as well as try to maintain as much normality for everyone including their other two younger children Indi & Brax. This fund raising is to help Cynthia's family with the ongoing costs of taking care of her during her treatment. It will help cover medical, travel and other bills that is going to be challenging with them both having to take time off work to care for Cynthia. Thank you so much for your support.
