My Travel Story

 Hi,
Everyone has a story, and so do I! My name is Shikhar, and I believe that ‘Life comes a full circle.”

What is my backstory?
I have always wanted to travel but constantly find reasons to stay – due to my work schedule, COVID-19 lockdown, career goals, financial liabilities, etc. And so, after nearly years of hard work and holding my funds with the skin of my teeth, I finally decided to stop making excuses and pursue my travel goals. 

I have been building up to this for the past two years through my Youtube channel – World In My Bag. Through World In My Bag, I highlight stories of ordinary people with extraordinary might. I travel to off-beat destinations, meet friendly people as ordinary as you and me, and maybe somehow get lost in the kitsch, bustle of urban life.

Before 2018, I volunteered at several places in South Africa, Sri Lanka, Russia, Seychelles and funding my travels through the channel and, of course, my limited salary. 

After traveling for almost five years now, I realize the importance of giving back to society. I realize the purpose of my life and my journey as a traveler, so I wish to embark on this phase of my life – which I call Exploring.

Since 2018, I had been planning to save as much money as possible but having realized that I had to put it off and on – the time just kept extending. The real jolt during this time was when COVID-19 hit me badly.  

The Idea
 “The change starts with you.” 

Highlighting how this campaign can transform into something tangible, I will be creating a video series through my Youtube Channel on how a small Crowdsourcing campaign gave wings to the dreams and aspirations of individuals in ways that they never imagine. 

In 4 months, I will be traveling to 4 Different Destinations around the globe (depending on the funds accumulated) to help fellow travelers, locals in need of support, and communities that require social/financial support. 
I budget the cost of traveling to these four countries at Rs. 2.8 Lacs (Including personal expenses – most of which are covered.) Here’s a small breakdown of where I would need your extended Support:

Accommodation - Approx $200

Airfare/Additional Visa Requirement Protocols - $250

Community/Social Welfare - $1100

Luggage and Equipment - $400

Local Travel Expense for 120 Days - $250

Site Fee – 10% - Variable

The Ask
Any funds towards this journey would be sooo greatly appreciated as given the limited time and my salary not being the best, and a little help would go a long way.

I will be recording and uploading all the videos – including all backers to my Youtube - for this phase of my youtube journey.
