My Travel Story

Hello! My name is Lena and I am from a small town in Eastern Washington state. About a year ago I saw posts about the Longest and Toughest horse race in the world, The Mongol Derby. The adventure of it had my interest peaked, and when I heard how much good the event did for the local community and charities around the world I was sold. I knew it was highly competitive so I was hesitant to apply, but after encouragement from my mentor, I decided to throw a shot in the dark and send in my application. 
After an extensive application process, I was selected for a spot for the 2025 derby! I was so excited to receive my offer to race, but I knew there is a lot of work to be done.
Not only is it an incredible adventure, it's also an opportunity for me to raise money for charity. One of the charities I will be raising money for is the Steppe and Hoof, a Mongolia based charity with the goal of assisting the nomadic herders of the Mongol steppe. By providing modern vet care, financial support, and so many more programs to help keep the culture of the Mongol herders alive. 
The race it self is the Summit, but the prep, fundraising and training leading up to the race is the climb. I look forward to every step, easy or difficult and can't wait to see what I learn about myself along the way. 
Every dollar I earn will go towards the race entry fees, required safety gear, and airfare/hotels for myself and my mentor who will be traveling with me. Anything that is extra will go towards the Steppe and Hoof to help support the incredible culture, and amazing people that also help support the race itself. With the goal of raising at least $2000 for the Steppe and Hoof itself.
