Hello Everyone,

I’m excited to share that I’ve been accepted into an incredible internship program through ROOTS Interns with SOS Animal in Santarém, Portugal—a nonprofit organization dedicated to the rescue, care, and rehabilitation of abandoned and mistreated animals. This opportunity means the world to me, as it aligns perfectly with my passion for animal welfare and gives me the chance to gain valuable hands-on experience in veterinary care and animal advocacy.

Why Portugal and SOS Animal?
Portugal is home to many inspiring animal welfare initiatives, but like many countries, it still faces serious challenges—such as large stray animal populations, under-resourced shelters, and limited access to veterinary care. SOS Animal works tirelessly to give these animals a second chance through rescue operations, medical treatment, and education programs that promote responsible pet ownership.

As someone who has a rescue dog of my own, SOS Animal’s mission hits especially close to home. I’ve seen firsthand how transformative compassion and care can be in an animal’s life, and I’m deeply motivated to be part of that change for others in need.

What I’ll Be Doing:
As an intern with SOS Animal, I’ll be involved in a variety of meaningful tasks, including:
  • Assisting with animal care, feeding, and cleaning routines
  • Helping with medical treatments and observing veterinary procedures
  • Supporting rescue and rehabilitation efforts
  • Participating in community outreach and education initiatives
This internship won’t just help animals—it will also allow me to grow professionally and personally, building the foundation for a future career in animal welfare and advocacy.

How You Can Help:
I’m aiming to raise $8000 to cover the essential costs of this experience, including:
  • Travel expenses (flights and local transport)
  • Accommodation and living costs during my 12-week stay
  • Insurance, program fees, and related supplies
Here’s how you can support:
  • Donate: Any amount, big or small, will make a meaningful difference.
  • Share: Spread the word by sharing this campaign with friends, family, and anyone who cares about animals and education!
Why Your Support Matters:
Your generosity will allow me to contribute directly to improving the lives of animals in need. Beyond that, you’re also helping me take a big step toward a life of service and advocacy in this field. I’ll be sharing stories, photos, and updates throughout my time in Portugal so you can see the impact you’ve helped create.

Thank you so much for being part of this journey with me. I’m incredibly grateful for your support!

Lots of love,
Michelle
