My Travel Story

Let me introduce myself, I'm Waylon Brander from Kraaifontein, Cape Town Born in 2005. I am writing to you today with a request to support my journey as a dedicated chess player. Chess has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. It's not just a game for me, it's a way of life, a constant pursuit of intellectual challenge and personal growth. Over the years, I have devoted countless hours to honing my skills, competing in tournaments, and sharing my love for the game with others.

I recently qualified to represent South Africa to play in the World Junior Chess Championship from the 1st to the 14th of June in India and also qualified for the African Juniors Chess Championship that will happen in November. I am faced with various expenses related to this tournament that's why I'm reaching out to you for support. I know it's a bit sort of noticed. In 2022 I played in the SA Open and came in 8th in the country by age 17 last year, I represented Western Cape in school chess (Winter games) and was the captain of the team and we got first place above all other provinces and now this year I finally have reached the dream I have always been chasing and that’s to represent South Africa but also get exposed by other players from other countries for me to improve even much further. So I believe with your support I can take my chess to new heights.

This tournament is a huge financial burden for me and my family. Having dedicated myself to the pursuit of excellence in chess, the opportunity to compete on the global stage is a dream come true. The prospect of challenging myself against some of the finest young minds in the world fills me with both humility and determination. As I prepare for this prestigious event, I am reminded of the countless hours of practice, study, and sacrifice that have brought me to this moment.
