My Travel Story

As soon as the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, I will travel to Sao Miguel; the main island of the Azores group, via Lisbon. I plan to be the first Irish person and the first person over 75 to hike the full 126 mile circuit of the island. São Miguel lies in the Atlantic, over 1,000 miles west of Portugal.

I will be posting a daily diary and photos of my trip (free to download) as I progress and I will answer any of your questions about the hike and give tips about organising a similar trip for yourselves.

I have sufficient funds for my flights through Ryanair vouchers (Ryanair fly from Lisbon to Ponta Delgada in the Azores) and enough Aer Lingus Avios points to cover the return flight to Lisbon. However, I would really appreciate some help with the cost of food and maybe a couple of nights accommodation. I hope to camp on most nights.
