Recovering From Being A Caretaker
My Travel Story
I have kidney problems and haven’t been checked out in a very long
time. Trying to pay the rent and bills is all I have time for. I started falling
behind when my father started having issues with his health and could
no longer work. I moved back in with my parents to take care of them. I
put aside my education, social life, goals, and health. I love my parents
very much they are my best friends. My focus was getting them back on
their feet! My siblings couldn’t do it because of their job situation, and
they have kids. I don’t have kids and I found a job from home. I was the
only one willing to be his 24/7 caretaker.
It was a huge rollercoaster!! I was so busy fixing their financial and
health problems. Every day was full of chores, long phone calls, doctor’s
visits. Things started to get difficult when my dad started losing
mobility. I physically had to lift him up and my health started to take a
huge toll. I could not have a 9-5 job or leave the house. I had no option
but to work from home while taking care of him. My father died
unexpectedly, and I was not prepared. My mother moved in with my
sister and I was left to fend for myself. I had lost touch with all my
friends. I had no roommates in mind.
My depression and anxiety have gotten bad. I have started racking
up credit cards and loans to get the rent and bills paid. I work every
second of the day!! I have forgotten what it is like to have fun.
I would love to travel but I would be happy with just taking a
small road trip to the beach or park to have a picnic.
