My Travel Story

Hello everyone! I have been accepted into a study abroad program called Semester at Sea. This program allows me to travel to eleven different countries on a ship over the course of a little over 100 days. We set sail on September 9th, 2017. While traveling, I will be able to take classes that will count as credits for the college I am currently enrolled at. This is super exciting for a number of reasons. First of all, for those who do not know me, I come from a small town. There is not much diversity there. It has left me with a hunger to understand people and cultures, and I believe that the only way to truly do this is to immerse myself in the different cultures and experience them firsthand. Semester at Sea will allow me to grow as a person and open my eyes to the world. I will be able to think and understand in ways I was never able to before. Second of all, all of this will greatly help me in the future as I plan to be a police officer where I will have to interact with different people on a daily basis. Everything about Semester at Sea honestly seems like a dream, and I am beyond lucky that I get to be a part of this program. I grew up with very little money, and we rarely traveled anywhere more than an hour away. I am still worried that this is all a dream because being able to travel to so many different places so far away feels completely unreal. Semester at Sea is expensive, though, and I am applying for as many scholarships and grants as I can. This will still not cover all of the costs, though. For these reasons, any donations will help and be greatly appreciated, even if it's just ten or twenty dollars!
