What makes us African? What unites us? Nothing, yet everything.

My name is Lyle Breda, I am 23 years old I hail from Rocklands Mitchells Plain and am currently a part time student at the University of the Western Cape, as a politics and business administration major, the above question has been something I set off to discover, something I felt was tantamount to the success of any African nations journey to self determination and rising of consciousness, I recently left my job as a senior Pre-Press artisan at Paarl Media Cape to pursue this question, to get in touch with the rest of Africa, I felt this a necessary sacrifice to a cause I perceived and believe is greater than myself for the question that is to be discovered after this is what connects us as people, accross the board, with the money I recieved from my pension fund I procured accomodation and flights from Cape Town to Cairo, Addis Ababa, Dar Es selaam and Nairobi, trains and busses will be taken inside the countries itself between cities and from Kenya to Rwanda, with enough money for food for atleast 1 and a half months max, the fund page was to generate donations in order for day to day expenses such as transport and food costs for the next 6 months.

The idea behind the journey was to get in touch with the people, not just of my nation (South Africa) but to understand the psyche, culture and plight of the greater African people and the greater parts of what makes us human, to understand what seperated us but also what unites us, it is my conviction that we are stronger united than we are divided, even if my works inspire one person my journey is complete, so I humbly request any donation available and help me firstly change the world secondly, make Africa alot smaller, one person at a time.

Thank you
