My Travel Story

by: Kayla Jackson Start Date: Oct 28, 2013 - End Date: Feb 2, 2014

Hello everyone! My name is Kayla and I have been accepted to study abroad at the Institut Catholique de Paris for the Spring Semester of 2014. I am an International Studies major and French minor. Many people ask me, "What does an International Studies major DO?" Well, I am very interested in the people of the world. I think we have so much to learn from each other. Different cultures captivate me and I truly believe that if we stop fighting one another we would all have so much peace and love to gain. In my lifetime I want to contribute to the betterment of this world and not just stack up personal riches in a bank account and hoard, only helping myself. More food is being produced today than in any other time in history yet people are still going hungry. I want to feed these people and build fresh water supplies. I want to give others hope and a reason to smile. When you give that is when you recieve. 1/3 of people living on this planet make less than $2 a day. I am willing to help change this. If you know better you must do better and this is what I am planning on doing with my International Studies degree. French is one of the most highly spoken languages in the world so being a French minor will help me communicate with many different people. In order for me to learn how to speak it fluently, what better place to learn but in France right? I will be the first of my family to travel overseas and embark on such a lengthy adventure. My family is making huge sacrifices for me to follow my dreams. As a junior in college I am at a turning point and I believe that this excursion will be life changing for me. This is a costly venture including airplane tickets, food, laundry etc. and I can really use your help! As little as $10 would be helpful, any amount is much appreciated. I am very grateful! Wish me luck, Au revoir!
