Hello! My name is Shauné Culmer, a second year graduate student in Dance Education at New York University (NYU). I am originally from Nassau, Bahamas.

This campaign is to support my 6 week volunteer trip in dance education to Costa Rica at the end of May, following my graduation.

I will be fulfilling my passion of increasing access to dance and the arts to children, particularly those who otherwise would not have access due to a lack of resources. I will be teaching in community centers and orphanages as well as in a studio. I consider it an honor and privilege to expose children to the arts and inspire them to connect with their bodies and unleash their own creativity. I consider this to be the most rewarding part of being a dance educator.
In addition to fulfilling my passion, this opportunity will provide me with additional international experience while expanding my global network and broadening my dance teaching competency. This would be my first exposure to teaching dance in the Spanish language.
I am especially excited about this opportunity because of my love and interest in learning about other cultures and teaching about my own.

In 2019 I traveled to Kampala, Uganda for a cultural learning and teaching exchange. This experience taught me so much about myself and my artistry. In Uganda I taught along with Ugandan and American colleagues. There, I was able to merge my love for dance, teaching and travel. This self discovery has inspired me to continue to do this important work and live out my purpose through dance education and traveling.

I'm looking forward to this experience and appreciate any assistance you can offer as I prepare to embark on this journey. Your contributions are not only appreciated but they are helping to spread the knowledge of the importance and power of dance in children’s lives. By donating you are essentially becoming an advocate for dance education and youth development.
