My Travel Story

by: Garrett Amy Start Date: Apr 12, 2018 - End Date: Apr 11, 2019
After 4 long and challenging years at the United States Air Force Academy, I intend to travel to all of South America for 60 days after graduation (with a final stop in Spain to see my former roommate Javi at the Spanish Air Force Academy). I am an economics and Spanish minor here at the Academy and I want to take full advantage of this time before my class gets rolling into our Air Force careers; I am planning on only speaking Spanish for the two months I am down there so that I can attain my goal of being perfectly fluent in the beautiful language. South America has a special place in my heart. I've worked in Ecuador with The Center for Working Families that really opened my eyes to the continent. Thanks to the Academy, I've spent a month in Chile and will be headed to Panama this summer as well. I am very intrigued by not only the landscape of the continent but also the people and how the history of each country has impacted their current problems and successes. It just so happens that I may have the possibility of someday working at a U.S. Embassy in South America as an Air Attache. This time after graduation, before I head to my job, will provide me with two more months of experience in an area of the world I have been studying since I was in Kindergarten.
