My Travel Story

I have recently been accepted into my universitie's exchange program with Nanzan University in Nagoya, Japan! I am a full-time university student at Indiana University, studying World Language Education: Japanese, and intend to recieve an additionally license in ENL (English as a New Language). I plan to become an ENL educator in Japan and the USA after my graduation in 2026. Knowing both English and Japanese is important to me when it comes to teaching a second language, so that I as my student's teacher can support their learning and understanding as best as possible. I have been planning to study abroad in Japan for 6 years. While in Nagoya, my intention is to build my language proficiency by immersing myself in the language and culture, which I have found is an efficient way for me to learn and adapt my language skills. Additionally, it is my intention to enroll in fifteen to sixteen credit hours, focusing on Japanese language classes, religion in Japan, Japanese literature, and if available, either a translation or teaching Japanese class. As a future English educator in Japan, I believe it is imperative for me to participate in a challenging and immersive experience so I can gain an appreciation of my students’ culture, possible religious practices, and language translation to become an empathetic and effective instructor providing the most authentic learning environment. In an ideal situation, I would love the opportunity to visit some Japanese schools and perhaps volunteer in an English tutoring program.

As a future educator, I may never get such an opprotunity again after I graduate.

Anything helps! Thank you for your support!
