My Travel Story

Hello, I’m Taeheon Kim from South Korea, currently studying Business at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in Hong Kong. This year, I’m pursuing my final dream before beginning mandatory military service: gaining real global work experience across Asia.

I have secured an unpaid Business Development internship in Singapore this summer, where I will learn how companies grow, build partnerships, and expand into new markets. After that, I plan to complete a Market Research internship in Tokyo, with the timeline expected to run until November or December depending on the company’s needs. I aim to enlist in December 2026, so this internship will be my last opportunity to expand my career experience before serving my country.

Experiencing both roles in two of Asia’s most important business hubs has been my personal bucket‑list goal as a young Korean student preparing for military service.
Once I finish my Tokyo internship, I will return to Korea and enlist as soon as possible. My physical examination grade has already been confirmed, and military duty is a responsibility every Korean man must fulfill. I am genuinely proud to be Korean, and I deeply respect the service members of all countries who dedicate themselves to protecting their communities. Before beginning my own service, I hope to challenge myself, grow, and see more of the world.

However, both internships are unpaid, and the cost of living in Singapore and Tokyo is extremely high for a student abroad. Your support will help me cover essential expenses such as accommodation, transportation, and basic living costs.

In Korea, we sometimes call someone who helps at a crucial moment a “1004” — pronounced like ‘cheonsa,’ meaning angel. Even a small act of support can feel like an angelic push that changes someone’s life. If you choose to support my journey, you will truly become my “1004,” helping me take one more step toward completing this once‑in‑a‑lifetime experience.
