My Travel Story

I’ll be going to Colombo, Sri Lanka in January to volunteer, and I am beyond excited! This trip means so much to me because it’s opportunity to donate myself to someone on the other side of the world. Beyond just exploring a new place and having fun, I chose to go to Sri Lanka because SLV.Global is a program specifically designed for psychology students like me to use our skills to make an impact globally. My passion for service and travel made me interested in this program. While abroad I will be:

●      Working in a clinical setting developing activities to help those at different stages in their recovery.

●      Teaching English to children or adults in the community to increase their career prospects.

●      Working in centers for people with special needs, running physical and mental activities to aid their development.

●      Participating in 2 workshops with mental health professionals in Sri Lanka.

As a student, I'm unable pay for the all the costs on my own. For the 6 week placement, my costs cover one full week of training in Sri Lanka, 6 weeks of homestay accomodation, breakfast and dinner at my homestay through the week, a jungle weekend, and 24 hour support! This is a low cost for so many benefits.

I have paid for my plane ticket and deposit towards the fees but the rest of my program fees are due December 5th! Only a month away!

This trip is the best real-world experience I could ask for! It is a way for me to gain new perspective, challenge myself to try something new, and develop skills for my future career. But I can’t do it alone! On this page you can pledge your support through suggestions, advice, social media shares and financial donations.

I know I’ve made it to where I am today because of the amazing people in my life such as yourself, and I hope you will join me in this next step!

With gratitude,

Zena
