My Travel Story

by: Karryn Wieda Start Date: Oct 24, 2024 - End Date: Dec 15, 2024
Dear Friends and Family,
I’m excited to announce that I have been accepted into a volunteer program in Bali through International Volunteer HQ, where I’ll be focusing on health education for the local children. I am eager to learn and grow through the experiences of supporting under-resourced communities. This experience is invaluable as I prepare for my future as a physician assistant.

Why Bali?
Indonesia is a country of immense beauty and vibrant culture, but many communities face challenges, particularly in education and healthcare. By volunteering at local elementary schools, I'll not only teach lessons about basic health regiments such as hand-washing and nutrition but also work with qualified doctors at check-up clinics in the local villages. The Balinese and Indonesian school systems are unable to provide enough education about health necessary for development. This program is a great way to improve access to healthcare and health education for not only children but also the community. As you know, working with children and spreading health awareness is deeply meaningful to me, making this the perfect program.

What I’ll Be Doing:

Through IVHQ’s trusted volunteer programs, I’ll be:

 • Preparing lessons and teaching at local elementary schools.

 • Teaching the importance of basic hygiene and general health, including brushing teeth, nutrition, the body system, washing hands, and general body cleanliness.

 • Working with qualified doctors at check-up clinics in local villages.

I aim to create a safe and engaging classroom environment, teaching simple education that can go a long way for immediate and future health.

How You Can Help:
My goal is to raise $3,000 to cover the costs of this meaningful experience, which includes:

  • Program fees to IVHQ (covering accommodation, meals, and in-country support)
  • Flights and travel insurance
  • Visa costs

Here’s how you can help:

Donate: Any amount makes a difference!
Spread the word: Share this campaign with others who might be interested in supporting this cause.

Why Your Support Matters:
Your donation will not only help me get to Bali but will also directly contribute to the education and care of children in need. I’m committed to sharing updates, stories, and photos during my time abroad so you can see the direct impact of your generosity.

$10 donation: Receive a postcard from Bali
$25 donation: Receive a video compilation of my experiences

This journey is one of both giving and learning, and I’m incredibly grateful for any support you can offer! Thank you so much for helping me make a difference in the lives of these children,

Karryn
