My Travel Story

Hello! こんにちは !

My name is Gillian (though I go by Rowan) and this year I will be entering my fourth and final year at St. Thomas University in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Last year I was presented the opportunity to study abroad at Rikkyo University in Tokyo, Japan. However much to the surprise of the world, a global pandemic emerged and took away this chance. My exchange was cancelled three days before I was meant to be on a flight to Haneda Airport. It was heartbreaking.

Since then I deferred my final year of university to the 2021-2022 academic year, found a full-time job, and moved out of my parent's house. Life became routine, mundane, and expensive. I incurred debt along with bills to pay and I live pay check to pay check.

Then one day a coworker of mine brought some hope into my life. They mentioned that St. Thomas University was accepting applications for international exchange for the 2021-2022 academic year. I will be graduating that year. This is my final chance to grasp at the opportunity to study abroad and live a dream of mine that I've had for years. I'm currently discussing the logistics with an academic advisor, but the toughest obstacle I will face is financial.

I am working 40 hours a week to pay my bills and make a dent in my debt, but I will need some help if I hope to have enough money saved to go on exchange this September. I will be eternally grateful for any assistance I receive.

Thank you! ありがとうございます !
