My Travel Story

My name is Fatima and I was raised in Cambridge and went to Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School and now attending University of Massachusetts Boston and I am planning to study in Amman, Jordan in Fall 2024. As a junior attending a commuter college, I have always wanted the opportunity to have the full college experience of living on campus and living amongst my classmates. Being a first-generation low income (FGLI) student, I am the sole provider of my tuition and work full time whilst being a full time student.

I was born in Bangladesh and then moved to the US with my family with dreams for a better future. As an immigrant, it is all about study, work, and work. There has not been any time for being a normal college student as I had to juggle all sorts of responsibilities. I am hoping to do this study abroad through SIT this Fall before I graduate in the following Spring. This SIT program not only includes tuition credits and internship opportunities, but it is also an opportunity for me to further learn Arabic which will help me with future career opportunities in the government.

The only thing that is holding me back from this amazing opportunity is the incredibly large cost of 25,000 to study abroad for a semester. Currently including scholarships, I still need to pay $12,000 upfront this July before I go to Jordan, not including other expenses. I would be so grateful to even make a small dent in this goal of mine that I am saving towards.

Thank you so much for reading this and greatly appreciate any help!
