Fixing Fencelines on Active Volcanos
My Travel Story
I could go to the Big Island of Hawai'i and work as a bartender at a nice hotel. I'd make tips and take lunch breaks at the pool. I would likely not remember the job, nor the job me, in 10 years. Or I could volunteer at Volcanoes National Park and work 40 hours a week for a minimum of three months, and feel that my time is meaningful - maybe Earth would agree. Hawai'i is overrun by invasive plants and animals and I have a chance to help improve the situation by working with the Park to walk fencelines and and take GPS points of damage that needs repair (preventing cattle, feral pigs, and even cats from getting in). Hawai'i is expensive and I'd need to get a vehicle, food, petrol, housing, etc. during my time there. I like to work, but I prefer when it is meaningful to me and maybe the planet.
If you feel up to supporting me in volunteering with Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, then bless you. I'm not asking for much. I'm guessing I'd spend a minimum of $100 in groceries per week, and perhaps $50 in petrol. I'd like to ask for support in $150/week accross four months of living and volunteering in Hawai'i for the National Park Service. I've already interviered with the team and they've said I can come onboard. I'd like to! With your help.
If you do donate, please send me your mailing address (if you feel comfortable) and I'll send you a postcard with an update of the work I've been doing.
