Hello, friends, family, and supporters!

I am thrilled to share that I have the opportunity to participate in the Dance Brazil Study Abroad Program with Ohio State University this May 2025. This incredible experience will allow me to immerse myself in the vibrant culture of Brazilian African diasporic dance and gain firsthand knowledge of how movement is deeply woven into the rhythm, community, and traditions of Brazil. As a dancer and researcher, this journey is a significant step toward achieving my academic and artistic goals.

My passion for community engagement through dance has guided my academic journey. Studying in Brazil will offer me invaluable insights into the ways dance fosters cultural expression and connection. I am particularly excited to learn from Brazilian artists, observe their teaching methods, and further explore how dance serves as a tool for social advocacy and empowerment.

To prepare for this experience, I am enrolled in PORTGSE 2330: Introduction to Brazilian Culture, where I am studying the cultural significance of Brazilian movement styles. Additionally, I am learning Portuguese with the support of a family friend who has a deep connection to Brazil. This will help me engage respectfully and meaningfully with local communities during my time abroad.

While I am committed to making the most of this opportunity, funding this experience remains a challenge. Despite working through the Federal Work-Study Program as a marketing student assistant and cleaning studios in the Dance Department, my financial resources are primarily used to cover rent, utilities, and other essential expenses. I am reaching out to my community for support in raising the funds necessary to cover travel, program fees, and other costs associated with studying abroad.

Your support will not only help me expand my understanding of Brazilian dance and culture but also contribute to my long-term goal of advocating for accessible arts education in communities. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings me closer to making this dream a reality.
