My Travel Story

Ever since I began studying Spanish when I was thirteen, I have been fascinated with the language and culture of the Hispanic people. While all Hispanic cultures are different, they all speak Spanish and they are connected to it. When it was time for me to choose a college, I chose the school on my list that had the best study abroad programs. I learned that Saint Mary’s College  sends over ninety-five percent of their students abroad! As I became more comfortable at my school and met new people, I found all of their travel stories absolutely exhilarating! I have been told time and time again that I should study abroad for as long as I can and that everyone who has studied abroad has said that it has enriched their life far more than any other school teaching they have experienced. When I study abroad, I hope learn so much from the culture that I will be fully immersed in. Each day will be a new experience full of possibilities and excitement. During my stay, I will be living with a host family for over nine months. I hope to challenge myself everyday with the language barrier that will be between us. For the duration of my stay,  I will be getting a first hand view of the daily life of Sevillanos! It may be awkward for a time between me and my host family but it is definitely going to be worth it.

While there will be times that I will be homesick, I know that I won’t regret my decision to study abroad for an entire academic year. There will be days when I will want to cry and I may think to myself “why did I agree to this? I miss my family!” But never to fear, because these experiences will stay with me for the rest of my life and I’ll have stories to tell that most people only get to read in books! I am going to live my dream and  see the world! In the future, my study abroad experience could gain me an amazing job from future employers!

My major is Spanish and Global Studies with a concentration in International Marketing. I hope that in the future, I will be able to live in Spain. Hopefully, my Spanish Studies Abroad Experience will help me gain a future position. Not many people can say that they are American, but they moved to Spain! Even if I may not be able to live abroad for a job in the future, other employers will be more than happy to hire a cultured and bilingual student that can help with International Affairs and Business. With the Spanish language, I also hope to make my future children bilingual so that they may become more educated and hopefully have a passion for learning like I do.

I am doing this for myself and no one else, so I have to make my time worth it! I have to remember that I have a unique experience at my fingertips. I have time to eat new foods, travel the world, learn about new cultures, learn new languages, and see hidden niches of the world! I hope that I can go abroad with no expectations and with an open mind ready to see the world. While I am abroad, I am going to grow into a whole new person who is wise because of my travels! The things that I’ll do and see are unique to my experience and to see the world and to swim in a world full of endless possibilities is a dream come true.  Bon Voyage!
