My Travel Story

I am a second-year undergraduate Student from China. Three years ago, I volunteered in Kampot, Cambodia, which was to help local people to protect mangroves because the communities were not aware of that how mangroves are essential to our environment because they not only protect coastal areas from erosion but also help to the cycling and storage of carbon. That experience actually helped me to make my decision about what I want to do for my focal area and my future career.

I remember when I was a child, there was river not far from my hometown and my whole family usually went there and enjoyed the weekend together, now the river is completely gone, the water resources in my hometown become scarce and not long ago, the town was suffering the water shortage for couple days. Also, the air pollution is getting worse year by year and most people have to wear masks before they go outdoor. As a student who chooses to focus on environmental technology and sustainability practices, I have strong intention to do my best to save our beautiful earth!

The reason that makes me select Ecuador is that this country not only encompasses a wide range of natural formations and climates but also famous for its biodiversity, especially in Galapagos Island. Therefore, it’s a perfect place to do the environmental related internship and research.
