My Travel Story

by: Brittany Birgen Start Date: Dec 11, 2020 - End Date: Sep 10, 2021
This internship in Dublin, Ireland, will change my life for the better and help get my foot in the door of the media industry. I have always been fascinated with Irish and Celtic culture, as well, and I'm so excited to learn more. I am currently a junior at Black Hills State University in South Dakota and have big plans for the future. Someday, I hope to end up working for NBC as an international correspondent, or maybe Rolling Stone magazine as a
writer/editor, or maybe even a copy editor for a well-renowned newspaper. I feel like having this experience on my resume will set me apart from the crowd. I have many goals as to my pursuits within this industry, and I feel this internship in Ireland will open a lot of doors for me to get those places.
I am passionate about this experience because I am passionate about people. I love meeting new people, getting to know them, and building relationships with them. This is one reason I entered the communications field, to effectively communicate with people, either on a large or small scale. Whether it's to a national audience on a TV broadcast or one-on-one with an interviewee for a feature piece, proper communication is always imperative for a healthy relationship, no matter the level. I feel like traveling abroad will help me get a more diverse perspective of the media and the press and their relationship with their citizens, be it Ireland or America.
I am so excited about this experience! I have picked up an extra couple of jobs trying to cover my expenses, but, as most people might be familiar, the more money that comes in, the more money that goes out. So, I appeal to you, my traveling friends and connoisseurs; please help me to make ends meet and embark on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and adventure in the legendary Emerald Isle. Much growth and perspective await for this small-town woman.
