Hello Everyone! My name is Kerra and I am twenty years old. I am currently working as a preschool teacher, and I am finishing up my Associates Degree. I am insanely passionate about traveling. My goal is to help the environment, people, and animals as much as I can while I travel. This upcoming summer (specifically August of 2018) I will be going to South Africa to volunteer with a program called "Volunteer Southern Africa". While there I will be working on the project "Living with Big Cats". This project is a rehabilitation center for African (and some non African) animals who have been injured by, rescued from, or orphaned due to poaching, canning, and other illegal acts of cruelty by humans. Traveling to a place so far from home is wildly expensive (no pun intended) as I am sure most of you know. I have already had to cut my orginal term ( a month) in half in order to be able to afford the program. As of now I will only be going for 2 weeks. Because I am paying for this entire trip 100% by myself, even cutting the term in half has still left me with many expenses to save for before I leave. My ultimate goal is to raise enough money not only to get there smoothly, but to also be able and extend my term back to its original 30 days, rather than 14 (but honestly the longer the better). The purpose for trying to achieve as long of a stay as possible is because the longer a volunteer is there to learn the camp, and to bond with the animals, the better the chance for that volunteer to get an opportunity to come back and WORK for the program. This is an opportunity most people could only dream of and I am beyond lucky to have been accepted into such an amazing program. My heart is with these magnificent animals in Africa who were fortunate enough to get a second chance. Help me to preserve, protect, and heal. Help me get to Africa! I have posted 2 videos (one pretty long in length, and one fairly short) about the program if you were interested in getting a closer look into what you would be helping me accomplish. ANYTHING HELPS! Thank you all in advance, and I cannot wait to share this journey with you! (:
