My Travel Story

Hello guys!

I am Max, and photography is one of my biggest passions! Ihave been selected for a volunteer project in Tacloban, Philippines, for the month of August, from Kaya Volunteer! I will be there as a photojournalist working for "Volunteer for the Visayans", which strives to reach out and improve the lives of communities and individuals in Philippines since 2004.

About the place

In November 2013, the city of Tacloban was struck by Typhoon Haiyan, the strongest tropical cyclones ever recorded, that largely destroyed the city. At least 6300 people were killed from the impressive intensity of the Typhoon and many more remain homeless, undoing much of the good work that had been done from VFV.

My role and why I need your help

Much help is required now since the city was hit by this catastrophic event, and not many people in the world are aware of the serious damages still present in that area. My job in Tacloban will be to visit and document as many of the projects which Kaya and VFV are working with as possible and assist staff in developing promotional materials and to update social media to raise awareness regarding the situation, and assist the NGO's fundraising through my work.

For me this could be a very important step towards a career in the field that I love the most, photojournalism, and you can help me to achieve this!

The placement fee covers: accomodation and 2 meals per day for 4 weeks, transportation from the airport to the city and viceversa, in-site training and any necessities that I might need while in the country. Part of the placement fee also goes directly to the NGO, helping them succeed in their mission. What is not covered is my plane ticket, that is not cheap at all! So any amount you can spare is a HUGE help to me, and it will be immensely appreciated! It doesn't matter how much you want to donate, or if you want to share this link, anything would be a big step towards Philippines!
