Kukweya Carbon Project is the pioneer in advocating for carbon offsetting tourism in Africa. 'Kuwkeya' is the swahili word for climbing and borrowed from our parent Eco tour form Kukweya Adventures Limited.
We intend to utilise the funds raised in several ways as highlighted below:

  1. Reduce emissions: We are focusing on reducing our own carbon emissions by implementing sustainable practices. This can include using fuel-efficient vehicles, promoting public transportation or carpooling for transportation, minimizing waste, and using renewable energy sources for operations.
  2. Encourage sustainable practices: We educate and encourage our guests to adopt sustainable practices during our tours. This can includes supporting local communities and businesses, minimizing water and energy usage, and respecting local wildlife and ecosystems. We are also keen in investing in projects that reduce or sequester carbon, such as reforestation, renewable energy projects, or supporting carbon offset projects in local communities.
  3. Calculate and offset carbon footprint: We are embarking on an ambitious project to calculate the carbon footprint caused by tourism activities in and around in National Parks across Africa. With the data from this study we plan to offset this footprint by purchasing carbon credits or investing in projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions to balance out their own emissions.
