Dear Caring Community,

We, the TIVOLI family, stand at a poignant crossroads in our lives. For the first time since 2017, we had eagerly planned a long-awaited trip to the Ivory Coast, a journey to embrace our heritage, culture, and family ties. Our three children, aged 17, 14, and 7, were excitedly looking forward to this adventure, envisioning a world of discovery and learning beyond the borders of our home.

Yet, life had other plans. The unexpected passing of my beloved father-in-law has left us devastated. As we mourn this profound loss, our hearts weigh heavy with the burden of financial constraints. We had gathered funds for our cherished trip, but circumstances compelled us to allocate almost all of it to honour his memory with a dignified farewell.

The impact on our children has been profound; they are grappling with a mix of emotions. The loss of their grandfather has taken a toll on their spirits, leaving them feeling dejected and withdrawn. Their dreams of exploring the Ivory Coast have dimmed, as the weight of financial hardship looms.

However, we believe that this trip, despite the setbacks, holds the potential to profoundly influence our children's education and future careers. Immersed in the rich tapestry of Ivorian history and culture, they would gain insights that textbooks could never impart. The exposure to diverse customs and traditions will nurture their empathy and broaden their worldview, enriching their lives and shaping their perspectives.

For us, the choice of the Ivory Coast as our destination was not a happenstance. It symbolises the core of our identity, a heritage that flows through our veins. It represents an opportunity to strengthen the bonds that connect us to our roots and honour the legacy of our ancestors.

Above all, this journey is meaningful beyond measure to my wife. The passing of her father has left an indelible mark on her heart, but the trip serves as a beacon of hope amidst the darkness of grief. It carries the promise of healing, a chance to find solace in the embrace of family and to relive cherished memories of her father, enveloped in the warmth of the Ivorian sun.
