My Travel Story

Hello family, friends, and others! If you don’t know me, my name is Rayne, and I am a dedicated sociology student at Wilfrid Laurier University, in Waterloo Ontario, with a passion for learning and cultural exchange. I have an incredible opportunity to visit Tanzania, where I plan to volunteer my time at kindergartens and early childhood centers in low-income areas, through an organization called IVHQ (International Volunteer HQ). Many families in these communities rely on these centers for support while they go to work, and volunteers like me will assist staff who often lack the resources to provide high-quality childcare. This experience will allow me to help young children grow and learn while also gaining invaluable experiences I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

This mission is not only about empowering others but also about educating myself. Through this exchange, I believe I can foster a greater understanding and appreciation between our cultures. As a sociology student, this is an amazing opportunity to see firsthand how different societies function—something I am deeply interested in. Additionally, experiencing childcare in another society will give me the hands-on experience I need to work with all types of children, preparing me for my future career as an elementary teacher. I am excited to share everything I learn along the way.
