My Travel Story

by: Paige Stephens Start Date: Jun 2, 2018 - End Date: Aug 30, 2018
Please consider supporting me in yet another volunteer adventure. I will be spending four weeks volunteer teaching with Cheerful Hearts Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on ending child labor & trafficking within Senya, Fetteh and Gomoa Nyanyano fishing communities in the central region of Ghana. To support this organization's mission, I am looking forward to providing English and Social Studies instruction and tutoring, help organize sports tournaments, and working side by side with local teachers fostering an international teaching practices exchange. The children I will teach have had to quit school at some point to help support thier families economically and some have even been subjected to trafficking.

While this is an amazing opportunity to help out, the influence of this experience will not stop in Africa. As a 9th grade Geography teacher in Texas, I will share my experiences from this trip with my learners and coworkers. This experience will support my endeavor to educate today's youth about different places and ways of life around the globe and encourage them to find and address the myriad of problems that we face today.

The fundraising I am doing does not include plane tickets. It only includes the mandatory volunteer fees for accomodation, travel, food, and a $200 donation toward project costs.
