Hey! My name is Amy Davison and I am 18 years old. I have the opportunity to travel to Ghana this summer for a mission trip. I would be staying in a village and working at the local schools teaching the children English, sports and simply spending time with the kids. My parents went to Botswana, and I hear from my mom about what a great experience it was. I have wanted to visit Africa for the longest time, and though I am young, I believe based on how this world is heading, there is no time like the present!

In college I am majoring in psychology with the prayer that I will be allowed to use that degree in child counseling. Specifically, kids that have been put in unfortunate situations that they never asked to be born into or placed.  I want the Lord to work through me to encourage kids to use their terrible situations or circumstances as a testimony to change lives and make a difference. That is why this opportunity to go work with kids is so intriguing to me.

You are probably wondering why I must go to Ghana to help children; I must admit there is some selfish ambition in this mission trip. I grew up very blessed and spoiled rotten by my parents. I was given multiple comfy beds, an abundant amount of food, clothes, and lastly a warm and safe environment to grow up in. I believe I am very guilty of taking these things for granted and feeling like I deserve more or even that I am hard done by. I believe that traveling to a place where people have so much less, yet still have joy will change my perspective on how unbelievably blessed I am.

I also must admit that I have become obsessed with my money. If you do not know me, I have worked so many different jobs ever sense I was 16. I have never gone a moment without trying to find a way to make money so I could buy more stuff, pay for gas, food etc. I recently have moved out of my house and live in a townhome in Athens, which was great.  I was desperate to get independence, but I have found myself worrying over money. I have more savings than most girls my age, I am not saying this to brag or sound boastful. But I know that I cannot take this money to heaven so I might as well spend it making a difference for his kingdom.

I have a good amount of money saved, however, to take this leap of faith to go to Ghana I need financial help. Anything will be very much appreciated it DOES NOT have to be big by any means! I need help with my plane ticket and money to use in Ghana for toilet paper, snacks etc. Most importantly however I would love prayer and just encouragement to go out and be a light for Gods kingdom. I am very nervous because I am going somewhere very unknown, and I know that the lifestyle I will be living for three weeks will be completely different than what I live now, so it will be an adjustment. But I feel very confident that even in my fear and anxiety the Lord will give me peace and guidance and keep me safe. One bible verse that I am reminding myself of during this process is 1 Samuel 12:24 which says, “Only fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart. For consider what great things he has done for you.” And I am using this verse as my motivation to work hard to save up for this trip and then proceed faithfully and let God work his magic through me.
