My Travel Story

Aloha, dear friends, family, and kindhearted supporters!
I’ve got a big dream for my two incredible kids, Dre (age 21) and Ivy (age 9)—a family getaway from our Tallahassee, Florida, home to the serene and stunning Na Mokulua Islands off Oahu, Hawaii! As a single parent, I want to trade our Panhandle pace (work for me, college for my son, and school for my daughter) for the laid-back aloha life, giving my kids a chance to explore pristine beaches, swim in natural pools, and taste island magic. With your help, we can escape to this quiet paradise and make memories brighter than a Hawaiian sunrise!

The Mokulua Islands—“Na Mokulua”—and their nearby treasures are calling us to adventure. Picture us kicking off our trip at Kalapawai Market, a charming Kailua spot where we’ll grab fresh poke bowls and local snacks to fuel our days—my kids are already drooling over the idea! Then, we’ll sink our toes into the powdery sands of Lanikai Beach, a postcard-perfect stretch with calm, turquoise waters ideal for swimming and chasing waves. Just next door, Kailua Beach promises more fun with its gentle surf, perfect for paddling kayaks out to the islands and building sandcastles that’d make Tallahassee proud.

The highlight? Kayaking to Moku Nui, the larger of the Mokulua duo, to splash in the Queen’s Bath—an eight-foot deep natural pool carved into the rocks. It’s a hidden gem for swimming, surrounded by clear waters and rugged beauty, where my kids can feel like island royalty. These spots offer a peaceful escape from the tourist bustle, letting us soak in Hawaii’s raw, unspoiled charm. Who knows what else we’ll stumble upon—maybe a sea turtle sighting or a rainbow over Lanikai?

This trip is all about bonding—leaving behind our Tallahassee routine to connect as a family amid Hawaii’s natural wonders. I want my kids to remember the summer we paddled to secret pools, munched on island treats, and lived the aloha life. But getting from Florida to Oahu isn’t cheap—flights, a rental, and gear for three—so I’m turning to this amazing community to help us reach Na Mokulua.

Here’s our Tallahassee-to-Hawaii plan:
Flights: ~$1,500-$1,800 (round-trip Tallahassee to Honolulu for three)

Accommodations: ~$1,800 for 5 nights in a Kailua-area rental

Adventures: ~$300 (kayak rentals, snacks at Kalapawai Market, beach gear)

Food & Misc.: ~$500 for meals and island surprises

Total Goal: $4,400 plus the 5% for Fundmytravel.com = $4,620

Every bit helps—$5 could buy us a treat at Kalapawai Market, $25 could rent a kayak, and $50 could get us to the Queen’s Bath! We’ll share our journey with you—photos of Lanikai’s shores, videos of us splashing in Moku Nui, and maybe a sandy “Mahalo” from Kailua Beach.

Mahalo nui loa (thank you so much) for considering this. With your support, we’ll leap from Tallahassee to Na Mokulua and bring back a heart full of aloha. Let’s make this a summer of Hawaiian dreams—together!

With love and gratitude,
Erin, Dre, and Ivy
